Who can work
You can work for the Queensland Government if you are:
- an Australian citizen, or
- a permanent Australian resident, or
- a non-citizen who has a valid visa permitting you to work. In this case, the work cannot extend beyond the expiry date of the visa and you will need evidence of the visa.

Migrant work experience program
Twice a year, the Queensland Government offers a work experience program for a limited number of migrants.
The program includes four weeks TAFE training and a six-week unpaid placement in an entry-level administrative position in a government agency.
To qualify, you must:
- have the legal right to work in Australia (see points 1 and 2 above)
- be from an non-English speaking background
- have a high level of English speaking, reading and writing skills
- not be currently studying at or have graduated from an Australian university, TAFE or equivalent in the last six months
- not have performed paid work in Australia in your field of expertise
- demonstrate that you have been actively seeking a job.
