Mature-age workers
The Queensland Government employs people in virtually all walks of life. With the current tight labour market, skills shortages and the continuing high migration to Queensland, we need to take an active role in attracting the right people so we can continue to provide high quality services to Queenslanders.
The Experience Pays Awareness Strategy aims to Recruit, Retrain and Retain mature-age workers. Queensland’s workforce is ageing, and there are fewer younger workers to take the place of retiring older workers. Therefore, employing mature-age workers is one strategy that managers can adopt to meet staffing requirements, maintain the competitive edge and maximise productivity.
Persistent stereotypes continue to surround older workers. In the emerging environment of skill and labour shortages, the government will increasingly depend on older workers as a prime source of labour. Therefore if you are a mature-age worker and looking for employment consider the Queensland Government as a future employer.
What we have to offer:
- Superannuation
- Flexible work arrangements – employees balance their work and personal responsibilities
- Location, location, location (rural, remote and capital city)
- Healthy work environments
- Variety of work – service delivery, policy development, front-line roles
- Training, skill and career development
The Queensland government values older workers and recognises they can adapt to changes in the workplace, learn new skills – including IT and are reliable employees. There are still outdated myths about mature-age workers. You can help bust those myths and join the Queensland Government.
