Our agencies
The Queensland Government delivers services through a significant number of agencies. These range from the traditional government departments through bodies established under individual Acts of Parliament to Government-owned corporations.
The functions of these entities include:
- providing hospitals, schools, emergency services, care for children, support for Indigenous communities
- commercial activities such as generating and supplying electricity and managing Queensland’s ports
- providing specialised legal services through bodies such as the Legal Aid Commission and the Public Trust Office
- administering laws relating to such things as the regulation of Queensland’s fisheries, workplaces and national parks.
The nature of the entity and its governance structure is determined mainly by its functions and the nature of its responsibilities. All, though, are in large measure accountable to the government and, through the government, to the Parliament.
Links to the websites of all departments and agencies, authorities, boards, commissions, offices, etc., is available on the Queensland Government website.
